OBJECTIVE:
To obtain a graduate degree in Library and Information Science, and work experience in libraries or on collaborative projects dealing with technology and information literacy in a community context. My long-term goal is to continue and expand upon the sort of community-based information and technology literacy and development work that I’ve been doing for the past two years as an independent consultant. My other object in undertaking this degree and seeking this experience is to improve, expand, and contextualize own information, technical, and administrative skills, and learn more about how to approach and accomplish this work more effectively in a variety of settings, with the aim of eventually becoming an authority in the field. 

EXPERIENCE:
1. 2003-2008 - Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The Picower Institute for Learning and Memory
* Lab Manager in Dr. Matthew Wilson's laboratory.
* Administrative assistance and travel planning for the principal investigator and lab members, as well as event planning for seminars and symposiums.
* Co-responsibility for finances and purchasing on multiple research grants, totaling in the 7-figure range per year. Also, supervision and coordination of the NIH grant and fellowship application process for lab members. 
* Oversight of general operations, safety, workflow, supply and inventory, animal research and DEA regulation compliance, and various other administrative tasks for a research group averaging 15 members during my tenure. 
* Miscellaneous IT support work, as well as development and administration of the lab intranet which collected and organized the lab's data, software, whitepapers, and publications.

2. 1999-Present - Freelance Web Developer and Consultant

* Over the years I have done contract or pro bono work on a wide variety of business, non-profit, and political websites. I've also completed several web projects under the auspices of my more permanent jobs, and done a large amount of personal and collaborative work as an independent labor of love.

3. 2008-Present - Nonprofit Social Media and Tech Consultant
* Since the fall of 2008 I've been consulting and volunteering with a number of local nonprofits in central Illinois to help them use social media more effectively and get their message out via the web, as well as on more general tech issues like office computing and networking. 
* I've also had a key role in a regional effort to foster nonprofit  collaboration online initiated by the Lumpkin Family Foundation, which resulted in the launch of http://goodworksconnect.org in August of 2009.

SKILLS:
* Excellent at problem solving, research, critical thinking, multitasking, learning new skills quickly, and working with others. Self-motivated, versatile, and well-organized. 

* Web publishing and design/layout including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, cross-browser and platform compatibility issues, web-authoring tools, content management systems, graphic design, and working knowledge of CGI/Perl, PHP, and MySQL. 12+ years of experience with internet technology and culture, including research, publishing, writing, design, user experience, accessibility, information architecture, online communities, and social media.

* Extensive experience with Windows 3.1/9.x/NT/2k/XP/Vista/7, Mac OSX, Unix/Linux platforms, and associated networking, and security issues. Experience with MS Office through 2007, Adobe Photoshop CS3, Acrobat, and Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Apache, sFTP servers and clients, scanners/OCR software, and most common compression, audio, document, and video formats. I'm not a sysadmin or an IT person by trade, but I can solve most problems I come upon with a combination of my experience and research abilities.

* Considerable writing experience and skill, including general rules of usage, structure, grammar, grant, scientific and technical writing, and copy editing. I have a significant body of self-published and some externally published work, both online and off. Samples available upon request.
